Purpose:

 

The Medical University of South Carolina's Women Scholars Initiative is a joint initiative of the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of the President whose long-term goal is the promotion of careers of women faculty.

Mentors & Mentees: Resources for Investigators at MUSC
Marc Chimowitz, MB, ChB, Professor of Neurology and Associate Dean of Faculty Development for the College of Medicine, presented information regarding mentoring at MUSC. Representatives from each MUSC College were present to answer questions.

Beyond Gendered Health Professions
Angela Barron McBride, PhD, RN, FAAN, Distinguished Professor-University Dean Emerita, Indiana School of Nursing, presented her keynote Beyond Gendered Health Professions. A networking reception followed the discussion. The presentation was co-sponsored by the Women Scholars Initiative and the MUSC College of Nursing.

Research Programs and Resources
Gerry Garza and Joe Gough, from the office of the DoM vice co-chairs for research, presented information on the new programs developed to improve and increase grant funding, mentorship and sharing of resources within the DoM.

Women Scholars Initiative Colloquium
Dr. Rosalie Crouch, Dr. John Raymond and the WSI Subcommittee Chairs sponsored a fall colloquium to provide updates on the past, present and future of the Initiative. A networking reception followed the discussion.

Cindy DiBiasi Workshop
Cindy DiBiasi, of 3D Communications, taught participants how to prepare their point of view ahead of time, and deliver it with confidence, and how to control media messages and interviews.
